The annual Merseyside Youth Games started in 1992 and enable the five boroughs of Merseyside - Knowsley, Wirral, Liverpool, Sefton and St. Helens - to compete in around 18 sports at a high level over two full days of competition.

However, the Games are just the icing on the cake. During the 12 month lead up to the games, thousands of youngsters take part in sporting activities to ensure that 500 youngsters represent Liverpool in sports as diverse as Athletics, Waterpolo, Cricket, Basketball, Gymnastics, Hockey, Netball and many others.

The Merseyside Youth Games event is very much a culmination of a yearlong programme of sports development activities and sessions, which lead to recruitment, training and selection of the teams and individuals who will compete over the Games weekend.
