Orienteering is a sport where competitors run round a short cross-country course, visiting a set number of control points. Special orienteering maps are used to show you the way to go with the start, finish and control sites clearly marked. Usually every control has to be visited, in order.

At each control site there is a red and white marker so that you know you are in the right place. The aim is to go round the course as quickly as you can.

The winner is the one with the fastest time round the whole course. Accurate navigation, using the map, from one control to the next is as important as running quickly.

Competition are held in school grounds, parks and open countryside. New members are always welcome to join local clubs and have fun!
